TL;DR Chocolate LAVA Pie deserves a try. Dark flaky crust hides a delightful oozing molten chocolate lava filling.

The chocolate pie has to be the most hyped thing that McDonald's Singapore has introduced. And I don't really understand why. I mean... it's just chocolate... pie?

But since it was so hyped, I had to get my hands on it. (And lucky I did because it was sold out within two weeks.)

The chocolate pie features the classic flaky crust of all McDonald's Pies-that-do-not-look-like-pies-but-taste-like-pies-anyway. The dark brown and bubbly texture of the crust makes it somewhat unappetizing, to be honest. But that's minor. The crust is still incredibly tasty, with its flaky layers disintegrating delightfully in the mouth.

What the crusty surface hides, is a chocolate lava pie. Not just a chocolate pie, but a pie with molten chocolate filling oozing out once you take a bite. The dark chocolate flavour is rich and deep, and the texture of the filling is smooth and thick.

However, something about the chocolate flavour seems a bit... not quite there. Like a chord missing a note, the flavour isn't as full and round as I would have liked it to be.

For $1.40 though, this is still a very worthy buy. I would buy it again just because it isn't on the permanent menu. If it was on the permanent menu though, I would still revert to the classic apple pie for my 2am suppers.
