[BKK] The Legendary Toasties of Bangkok's 7-11s

TL;DR Head to your nearest 7-11 NOW and hunt for these toasties (if you're in Bangkok). The legendary toasties of Bangkok's 7-11s are a MUST TRY. Cheap, convenient and so very comforting. They are the epitome of great convenience store food.

We need to talk. We need to talk about the legendary toasties of Bangkok's 7-11s. I'll tell you right now, these are genius, and I don't know why they are not in ALL 7-11s around the world, or at least here in Singapore too.

Erm, what am I babbling about?

I'm talking about these beauties. Two beautiful rows of 7-11 toasties.

7-11 toasties are pre-packaged sandwiches that you can buy from the refrigerated section of 7-11. After you buy them, you can hand it to the cashier and have them toast it for you, and you will have for yourself the simplest but most comforting snack in the whole world.

They start from 25 baht, and the most expensive one I found is 37 baht. That's about SGD 1 for most of the toasties, and about SGD 1.60 if you feel like splurging.

Spot the difference! ;)

Yes, I cleared my favourite flavour off the shelf. :D

It's an upgrade of the classic ham and cheese sandwich, from the Gold selection. So atas right? I know. So while the classic ham and cheese sandwich only has one slice of ham and one layer of cheese, the gold ham and cheese sandwich has two layers of ham (what a luxury!) and two different kinds of cheese. As far as I can tell, one of the cheeses is a standard American cheese to be found in all sandwiches, and the other cheese is a nacho-y cheese that has a slightlyyy spicy kick.

Holding a freshly toasted toastie is one of the most beautiful feelings in the world. :')

A cross section of my favourite 7-11 toastie. :) The double ham makes this a more substantial sandwich than the regular toastie, and the double cheese adds that slight complexity to the flavours and makes you feel like this is the most luxurious sandwich ever despite it being convenience store food. The toastie is also buttered and toasted to golden perfection. Not all 7-11 toasties are buttered, so I must point out the buttered toast here. The buttered toast makes this absolutely sinful. (In a good way.)

The beauty of the 7-11 toastie is in its simplicity. It's nothing to scream about (yes, I know I'm doing exactly the opposite). It's just two pieces of bread with stuff between it, toasted. But that's what makes it great. Ham and cheese sandwiches are the things I ate as breakfast on the way to school as a child. It tastes like home and warmth. And you can now waltz into a 7-11 nearby (and they are everywhere) and get a taste of nostalgia and childhood. And only for 25 baht! (Well, 37 baht if you decide to splurge like me.) That's a steal for such a comforting and convenient snack.

So, if you're ever in Bangkok. You MUST try this. MUST ah.
