The way we found this place was just to key in "Omurice near Shinjuku" on Google Maps. But it seems that this is a chain establishment and they have a lot of outlets across Japan.
The vibe of this place is old countryside English and you feel a bit like you've entered the Japanese version of a tiny Italian trattoria. They serve Japanese-Western food, you know those kind with menus that are ten pages long. No one has time for that, so we went immediately for their "人気 NO. 1" most popular dish which is the "Creamy egg omurice, demi-glace sauce hamburg" (とろーり卵のデミグラスハンバーグオムライス).
The omurice was amazinggggggg!!!!!!
The omu/egg was so smooth and soft and fluffy and creamy and buttery. Eating the omu with the rice was amazing, the omu wraps around the rice and softens the texture of the rice. (The rice is regular white rice).
That demi-glace sauce (brown sauce) is awesome too. For all I know, that demi-glace sauce may just be some canned stuff. But I've never had demi-glace sauce before and it was so flavourful and delicious.
Also I learnt recently that a hamburg is the Japanese take on a hamburger (without the buns and everything). It tasted like a juicy beef patty, which is to be expected since that's what it is.
Combine everything together, and this was one unforgettable meal. This was one of my favourite meals in Japan, and til now I still think about it once in a while! Really! When I'm craving for some omurice but can't get any decent ones in Singapore. :(
Also, can we have a moment here to look at the fake food counterpart of this dish? It's amazing how real this fake food model is compared to the real dish! Except for that plastic garnish. I really like how Japanese food almost always look like their fake food models.
Value
This was ¥1080/SGD14 (before tax) a la carte. It's pretty similar to what it might cost in Singapore, so it's fairly reasonably priced.
